G-Scale Garden Railroad

For a long time, we have considered adding a G-Scale railroad to our operation at the Paradise Valley Railroad. The idea is active now because of a donation of assets from the estate of long-time member Geoff Stubbs.

The current plan is to locate the railroad between the station and the drive-through shed

The intended site is a 24′ x 14′ rectangle shown with these benches. We plan to build an elevated platform 30 inches high with rock sides.

Elevated platform construction. We decided on natural rock walls 30″ high on the low side, 20-24″ on the high (north) side, contracted to Bolder Contracting with material from T&R.

One concrete block solution is located in Burnaby as seen in this pdf. (Our display will be a very small “starter” version of the Burnaby G-scale display!)

Natural rock walls are attractive.

Track

16 R3 pieces make an 8 ft diameter circle; we have 33 so far, many straights, some flex, and many smaller radius

Previous activity

Our thinking back in, Aug, 2025, was to pause the idea of an outdoor loop in the grove next to our shed. until we have a detailed plan, or choose another site. More here

On Jan 24, 2025, members of our G-Scale committee met with Dawn, lifted the railroad ties from the outdoor garden display, marked the boxes and stored all the material in Dawn’s shop.

The gift contains three logging locomotives, some log cars, some bridges, and most of the tracks from Geoff’s layout.
